I was totally lost in Photography one month ago...even now, I am not quite clear...seriously..
I did listen and absorb different comments on different photos from myself and different person in the past few months. I found that I only like very few of them...it doesn't mean that they are bad but they are not my personal favorite.
Appreciating Photography is very personal, so I bet I should search/ understand better of my Personal Style before going forward...
I am from different art backgrounds originally before learning Photography, maybe it is a reason making me stuck in the situation of the way how to appreciate Photography...
Skill, I am not worried about too much, it depends Education/ Time/ no. of Practicing involved...
By attending Joe's McNally's Workshop, I found when he commented on his student's photos, he focused on skill, not much on Art Form but he did mention when he saw something he really likes on the photos. I bet he is trying to respect each's Personal Style....
To understand myself better, I think I have to ask myself what style I like...
My absolute favorite photographer in the world - Helmut Newton.
I searched on the website that he mentioned about Photography..
(1) Every Photo tells a story, an interesting, often mysterious, story.
(2) The set ups are unique, never focusing on the clothes or the model, always putting the image first.
(3) Accentuate the model's/ subject's personality, even though he almost ignores the fact that she is there.
Well, quite simple of above 3 points but it is actually very difficult, a long way for me to go...I am going to put time researching his photography...
His wife, Alice Springs, also a very good photographer, she is running the Helmut Newton Foundation at the moment.
